Curriculum-Learn the basics of sewing by taking beginning sewing
class at Peter Jones

Time: 6-9pm
Objective: Each student will
learn how to put their creative ideas into motion by creating a pattern and learning to cut from their own pattern and sew
the skirt together to create a hip and unique skirt that functions with your fabric of choice. On a technical note the students will learn how to construct a skirt by learning
to piece it and how to line the skirt and surge the seams and professionally learn to install a zipper or button,
snap etc.
Assignment:
Design
your own skirtby creating a pattern and sewing the project
- Pins with pin cushion (I
recommend the sewing kit it has all the tools and things you need to properly rip and piece the garment)
- scissors (not paper ones) friskars very good
- ruler metal one and tape measurer
- pencils
- thread to match the fabric
- fabric outside and fabric inside Your choice of fabric and lining (acetate or polyester is fine) The
polyester is easier to iron and the acetate is harder to wash
- sewing machine (Sears has really great machines the repair department is good and the return policy is
great)
- seam ripper
I recommend the sewing kit it has all the
tools and things you need to properly rip and piece the garment
Fabric choices- I recommend corderoy, cotton
or brocade. Please no velvet
or chiffon or silk charmuese or stretch vinyl or cotton jersey too hard for beginners.
